Olmesdahl, James (Mr JM)
I am a Counselling Psychologist working in private practice. I deal with a wide array of problems ranging from problems affecting individuals to problems in relationships, marriages and families. I also work with children regarding learning problems and career choices./n/nI work eclectically drawing on a number of different theoretical approaches so as to find a good ‘fit’ between what a client presents in a session and the approach they will find most beneficial. Grounding myself in a humanistic approach, I believe that every client should be heard in a respectful, non-judgmental and empathic manner. I do not work from a religious framework nor do I prescribe one. Rather, I work within the religious or spiritual frame of reference as it is presented to me./n/nI have a Masters in Counselling Psychology from UKZN and completed my internship at UKZN’s Student Counselling & Careers Centre. I have since worked as a psychologist at various tertiary institutions including UKZN, DUT and Vega. I have also run workshops with both children and adults using art-based media to facilitate awareness around psychological issues.
