Advertisement for a Clinical Psychologist
The MRC Unit on Anxiety & Stress Disorders has a vacancy for a Clinical Psychologist to be based at University of Stellenbosch Medical School, within the Department of Psychiatry. The position would suit a confident individual with excellent communication skills, who has the ability to work with a range of health professionals in a highly active and often stressful environment.
Requirements:
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Clinical Psychologist
- Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology
- Appropriate post-registration experience
- Driver’s Licence
- Good interpersonal skills
Recommendations:
- Additional training or experience in Neuropsychology
- Skills in Neuropsychological assessment as well as co-ordination, management, and evaluation
- Interest in pursuing a career in research
- Proficiency in at least 2 of the 3 official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, Xhosa)
- Computer literacy
Duties:
- Recruitment and assessment of research participants
- Clinical and neuropsychological assessments of children, adolescents and adults at the MRC Unit on Anxiety and Stress Disorders.
- Compilation of paper-and –pencil and computerized test batteries for various research studies.
- Management of databases on various studies
- Working together with research study team, as well as independently in a research team environment, in order to optimise research strategies
- Good writing and verbal communication skills are imperative
The candidate should be prepared to develop his/ her own research projects.
The position is offered as an initial short-term contract post in the first instance, with the possibility of extension, subject to funding availability. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Die MNR Eenheid vir Angs-en Stressteurings het ‘n vakante pos vir ‘n Kliniese Sielkundige by die Universiteit van Stellenbosch, in die Department Psigiatrie. ‘n Selfversekerde individu met uitstekende kommunikasievaardighede en die vermoë om met ‘n verskeidenheid gesondheidswerkers in ‘n stresvolle en bedrywige omgewing te werk, kan vir hierdie pos aansoek doen.
Vereistes:
- Registrasie by die Suid-Afrikaanse Mediese Raad as ‘n Kliniese Sielkundige
- Meestersgraad in Kliniese Sielkunde
- Toepaslike nagraadse ondervinding
- ‘n Bestuurderslisensie
- Uitstekende menseverhoudings
Aanbevelings:
- Aanvullende opleiding of ondervinding in Neurosielkunde
- Vaardig in Neurosielkundige assessering as ook as koordinering, bestuur en evaluasie
- Belangstelling in ʼn loopbaan in navorsing
- Vaardigheid in ten minste 2 van die amptelike tale van die Wes-Kaap (Afrikaans, Engels, Xhosa)
- Rekenaarvaardigheid
Pligte sluit in:
- Werwing en assessering van navorsingsdeelnemers
- Kliniese en neurosielkundige evaluasies van kinders, adolessente en volwassenes by die MNR Eenheid vir Angs- en Stressteuring
- Saamstelling van pen- en paier- en gerekenariseerde toetsbatterye vir verskeie navorsingsprojekte
- Hantering van databasisse vir verskeie projekte
- Samewerking met ‘n navorsingspan, sowel as om onafhanklik te kan werk in ‘n navorsingsomgewing, ten einde navorsingtrategieë te optimaliseer.
- Goeie geskrewe en verbale kommunikasievaardighede is van kardinale belang
Die kandidaat moet bereid wees om sy/haar eie navorsingsprojekte te ontwikkel.
Die pos word aanvanklik aangebied as ‘n korttermyn-kontrak, met die moontlikheid van verlenging, onderhewig aan die beskikbaarheid van fondse. Salaris hang af kwalifikasies en ondervinding.
